Backstory

Inducted into the Bravat’a, a large criminal organization of thieves and spies, at a very young age, Bro’sys and Sys’bro’s earliest memories were of sneaking into vents in ships and buildings to steal valuable artifacts under the mysterious guidance of the Bravat’a’s leader, Spykey. Their small size and cunning intelligence were prized by the Bravat’a.

Bro and Sys, as they are informally known, were looked after by Spykey and his underlings until they were old enough to fend for themselves. When asked where they came from, Spykey would tell them how he found them on Myriad, a planet of countless lost cultures and refugees, but they never knew if this was their true origin. They hoped to someday find their true homeworld, be it Myriad or some other planet.

As they grew up, Bro’sys and Sys’bro learned that they could only trust each other, as the Bravat’a were full of secrets and lies. They developed a keen resentment for their way of life, which had been forced upon them. Bro’sys wanted to explore the cosmos with Sys’bro, free of duty to the Bravat’a. Sys’bro dreamed of being a painter and a craftswoman. Alas, their attempts at escape were met with punishment and sharp recourse.

Over the course of their journeys, Bro and Sys had escaped imprisonment five times, escaped the Bravat’a three times, and evaded capture countless dozens of times. In separate incidents, Bro’sys lost an arm and Sys’bro lost a leg. The Bravat’a replaced their limbs with bionic ones, as a show of loyalty to bring them back into the fold.

Bro and Sys were never great at swindling or beguiling others, but they excelled at defensive deception. They wear the mark of the Bravat’a on their necks, but, as with all its members, the mark disappears for a short time after constructing a false alibi. This certainly helped Bro and Sys avoid being identified as members of the Bravat’a more than a few times from both the Purgatoran Guard and the Bravat’a themselves.
