More ape-like than other man-dogs, King Apithee rarely moves his flubbery belly rolls and extensive shoulder flaps. His jowels rest on his chest, and his baleful red eyes look upon all who move about with wistful scorn.

When Zea becomes a captive of the land of Dystonia, King Apithee takes a keen interest in her, being an exotic alien with resistance to the immobility projected by Dystonia. He makes her his personal advisor and demands to hear stories of Zea’s adventures each day and night.

Though he threatens to eat her if she tries to escape or refuses to tell stories, Zea suspects and then discerns that he is bluffing because he wouldn’t harm her--and because he is a vegetarian.

Because of Zea’s stories and influence, King Apithee’s character changes as he opens his mind to care about people again. His compassion for others reawakened, King Apithee was moved to unshackle much of the restrained ways of the land of Dystonia--much to the incense of Dystonia herself.
